Kentucky Teacher

Kentucky schools and school librarians are lucky to have a highly qualified and dedicated school librarian at the state level, Kathy Mansfield. She helps coordinate initiatives, shares pertinent information, recognizes school librarians across the state, and makes sure school libraries and their impact on student learning are considered in every context. Thank you Kathy, for...

ripped apart webinar
Post

I loved having the opportunity to participate in this AASL webinar on Smithsonian’s app, Ripped Apart. I love the interactiveness of the app, and how it really puts students in the shoes of a researcher. Finding clues, viewing images closely, and a requirement to put the pieces together, are what makes this app so great.

This was a day of professional learning that some fellow Oldham County librarians and myself organized this past summer. We had over 300 attendees! I created this WordPress website and some Google Forms to help organize the event.

Prezi

This is a Prezi that I used for talking points when I was a guest speaker for an EKU graduate level class in educational technology for Dr. MaryAnn Kolloff. We discussed tools and resources and how some are geared towards students, other teachers, and the librarian.

Sierpinski Triangle

I helped these students create an alternative project for some math concepts they were exploring. I loved that I only had to show them the basics of Prezi, some video techniques including the green screen, and some tips on writing a script. Then they took off! Here is their finished project.

New School = New Library

New School = New Library

In 2008 I was lucky enough to help design a new school library from scratch. I created this in Sketchup (CAD/3Ddesign software) before the school opened to get a feel for how the library would look and to plan on where to place books and resources. It was so cool being able to show Locust...

LMS Handbook

I helped to create this wikispaces wiki to help provide a central location for resources for our district’s library media specialists. We found it nearly impossible to keep printed binders updated each year, and as new librarians would join us, this space made it much easier to share and collaborate on common concerns and projects.  fou...

Library Map

I created this map for my first school library website at Camden Station Elementary. I wanted to be able to show it to students on our “large” TV! Ha! (Please excuse the typos)

Poetry Quest

I’ve been working on transferring my “portfolio” of projects over to my new site. This poetry project was one of my first websites that I created for students at Camden Station during Poetry Month in 2004! It’s fun to look back on this stuff, as awful as it may look or read, broken links and...
